Introducing Stair Climbing for Baby's Development

We all know that babies don't make wise safety decisions when it comes to stairs. They don’t typically show fear of heights until they are 7 to 9 months old.

However, once your baby masters crawling on a level surface like the floor…

Try this:

Let them try climbing up the stairs with direct supervision and guarding.

Place a toy on the second step from the bottom and let your baby spend time attempting to problem-solve how to go up. This activity prepares babies for pulling up to kneeling and eventually pulling up to stand. With time and practice, safety awareness should follow.

If you don't have stairs at home, or you don't feel safe playing on the stairs… try using a small step stool in the middle of the room, like this one 👇🏼
