Gross Motor Skills To Expect
Crawling.
Expected Age Range: 7-10 months, or so.
There are a lot of important skills that are developed uniquely by crawling. That's why I hesitate to brush it off when a baby skips this milestone. This is what you can expect to see as crawling skills emerge:
They will begin to push up and back through their arms to get into a hands and knees position. This is also called quadruped position.
They will be able to transition from sitting to quadruped, over their left and right sides.
They will start rocking back and forth in quadruped.
Your baby will weight shift to the side and unweight one hand at a time in quadruped.
They will begin to crawl forward on hands and knees in a symmetrical and reciprocal manner.
They may start to crawl forward while pushing a toy along with one hand.
Your baby will attempt to crawl up and over, through, and under obstacles.
They may begin to crawl up stairs with direct supervision.
Your baby might also experiment with other types of crawling like “bear crawling” which is crawling on with their hands and feet only, knees not touching the floor.
