Gross Motor Skills To Expect
Cruising along furniture.
Expected Age Range: 9-11 months, or so.
This is what you can expect to see as your baby learns to cruise along furniture:
While standing at a supportive surface, your baby will begin releasing the surface with one hand at a time, and rotate their trunk in order to look behind themselves. They should be able to do this comfortably to both sides.
While standing at a supportive surface, your baby will be able to squat to pick up toy from floor and return to standing position, without sitting on the floor to obtain the toy.
They will begin cruising along furniture in both directions. Cruising is taking side steps while holding onto a support surface.
You’ll notice your baby start to bounce or dance while holding onto a supportive surface, with little bends of their knees.
They will start to completely let go of the supportive surface, while standing for brief moments, while playing with a toy with both hands.
They will start to make attempts to transfer between pieces of furniture that are close to one another.
