Gross Motor Skills To Expect
Pivoting in circles.
Expected Age Range: 5-6 months, or so.
Pivoting builds upper body strength, hip and knee flexion patterns, and the left and right sides of the body moving independently of each other, which is needed for reciprocal crawling. These are the micro-milestones you can expect to see:
On Their Back:
Your baby easily grabs onto their feet and rocks side to side.
They roll from their back onto their tummy to play with their toys.
On Their Tummy:
Your baby should be very active in tummy time, reaching for objects that are outside their reach.
They begin pivoting clockwise and counterclockwise in a circle on their tummy to get to toys around them.
They may lift their chest off the floor as they press up through straight arms and open hands.
In Sitting:
Your baby will be able to “prop sit” with their hands propped on the floor in front of them when you place them in sitting, slightly folded over, but with their chest off their legs.
